Kent Monkman’s painting “The Scream’’ illustrates many issues and social problems within this society. It focuses on themes regarding the relationship of the state or government and the social factors, particularly gender and race. This painting illustrates the canadian historical event of Indian Residential Schools which were founded under the 1876 Indian Act (Henderson, 2006)).
